Looking back on the spring semester, I am awed by the quantity and quality of the activities that took place over the past few months at the MacMillan Center. Peter Hart, a leading analyst of public opinion in the United States, delivered the Coca-Cola World Fund at Yale Lecture. He offered his extensive expertise on the upcoming presidential election and told the crowd that he does not believe that re-election for President Obama is guaranteed.
Henry A. Kissinger spoke at the Johnson Center’s First Annual Conference. The foundation of the Johnson Center is the Kissinger Archives at Yale University, a collection of approximately one million documents and objects covering Kissinger’s life as a diplomat, scholar, teacher, and private citizen. As a program of the Jackson Institute for Global Affairs, and in collaboration with International Security Studies and the Brady-Johnson Program in Grand Strategy, the Johnson Center will bring prominent statesmen and academics to campus as Kissinger Senior Fellows andKissinger Visiting Scholars, as well as host an annual conference and a variety of other events relating to international affairs.
Our councils and programs continue to provide compelling events for the Yale community, as you will see in the pages of this newsletter – Former Treasury Secretary and Goldman Sachs CEO Henry “Hank” Paulson spoke about leadership; a conference addressed emergent trends of fatherhood in an increasingly globalized world; and Aristos Doxiadis, a renowned Greek economist and entrepreneur, offered a fresh perspective into the micro-origins of the Greek financial and socioeconomic crisis.
In June, the Fox International Fellowship Program will hold it’s second reunion in Paris at Sciences Po, one of our 12 partner institutions. Many of the Fox Fellows will travel from around the world to take part in the festivities. The program is one of the jewels in Yale’s crown and an important contribution to international education and communication at the highest level. The Fellows are gifted students who have demonstrated a desire to contribute to international understanding as they expand their global horizons. It is truly an admirable program, and we are deeply grateful to Mr. Joseph Fox ‘38 and his wife Alison.
